The name Paris plages was christened in 1874 by a certain journalist Hippolyte de Villemessant. The main purpose of Paris plages is to offer the inhabitants of the region who can’t go on holiday the opportunity to experience the atmosphere that is usually found on the coastal beaches.

Since the beginning of the event in 2002, with great success, the Paris plage has become a ritual that is held every year. Activities during the Paris beaches

The Paris plages is organized every year generally during spring, between July and September. With the evolution of this operation however, the Paris beaches attract many foreigners especially those who have as a tourist destination. There are many fun and sporting activities during the session of Paris plages.

How is Paris plages organized?

The Paris plages festival is organized by the Paris City Hall with the help of specialists to build identical scenarios of the atmosphere on the beaches.

Every year, from 2002 until 2019, the Paris plages festival has been held in the French capital between July and September. However, the location can change depending on accessibility. For example, in 2019, the Paris plage took place on the bassin de la Villette and on the Georges Pompidou basin. This last edition was held between 6 July and 1 September.
